The Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa on Agriculture, Mr Aneke Ifemeni, has assured that the state will become Nigeria’s major coconut producing hub. Ifemeni, who made this known while speaking with journalists on Monday in Asaba, also assured coconut farmers that coconut business has come to stay in Delta.

According to him, Delta has everything required to take over as number one coconut-producing state in Nigeria in a few years to come.

Ifemeni who is also the State Programme Coordinator of the Delta State Coconut Development Programme (DESCODEP), thanked the governor for creating the enabling environment for coconut business to thrive. He appealed to the people of the state, especially farmers, to embrace the coconut development initiative of the state government by planting coconuts this farming season.

We should have it at the back of our minds that another planting season has come and one crop that must be planted by everyone is coconut.

Coconut which is becoming a global commodity, is systematically taking over from palm oil,” he said.
